Chester, CT was founded in 1692 and was originally a shipbuilding and mill town. This beautiful coastal town is described as being quaint and unique. You’ll love Main Street, which features interesting architecture, art galleries, delicious dining, elegant shops, and more. Chester is also home to the Goodspeed Opera House’s local Norma Terris Theatre, and the town has a small airport. There are plenty of vibrant and creative people in Chester, which is just over two hours away from both New York City and Boston. With only about 4,000 residents, Chester maintains its intimate feel and is made up of the “tri-town area” with Essex and Deep River. Each town has an elementary school, and there are two high schools: John Winthrop Junior High School and Valley Regional High School.
